Pioneering hearing intelligence

Mimi is stepping into a new era - an era defined by hearing intelligence and inspired by the growing demand for personalized, accessible, and health-aware consumer technology.

For years, we have been known for pioneering sound personalization, but we’ve recently repositioned to reflect a broader vision: enabling audio experiences that adapt to every user, every device, and every environment. This evolution marks an important step not just for Mimi, but for the role of hearing intelligence in the wider consumer electronics space.

Why we repositioned

Our brand repositioning was driven by a need to capture the full scope of what Mimi offers today, and where we are headed next. We are proud to be recognized for our industry-leading sound personalization, which is now live on more than 70 headphones, but that is just one facet of our broader capabilities.

Over the years, Mimi has evolved into a comprehensive technology partner, delivering scalable hearing intelligence solutions that adapt to different users, devices, and environments.  At the core of this offering are our four main products: Sound Personalization, Voice Clarity, Dialogue Focus, Hearing Test.

This repositioning also reflects a broader industry shift where adaptive audio and hearing technologies in consumer electronics is moving from a “nice-to-have” feature to a core differentiator that drives accessibility, personalization, and wellbeing.  For example, Apple’s decision to integrate clinically validated hearing tests, personalized amplification, and hearing protection directly into AirPods Pro 2 illustrates how hearing health is evolving into a mainstream expectation, setting a precedent for the industry at large.

Listeners are also increasingly expecting sound to adapt to their hearing abilities, environments, and usage contexts to enhance clarity, focus, and comfort. According to Qualcomm’s 2023 State of Sound Report, 60% of respondents cited hearing personalization as a likely purchase driver for their next earbuds/headphones, and 24% identified hearing assistance/enhancement as a key factor they would consider when purchasing their next earbuds.

With this evolution, our goal is to make our value clear: Mimi delivers future-ready solutions that elevate the listening experience while driving measurable business impact and market differentiation. For our partners, this opportunity is twofold:

  • Stand out in a crowded market with innovations that go beyond incremental improvements and deliver meaningful new product features.
  • Deepen user engagement with experiences that foster loyalty and long-term impact.  In fact, 92% of Mimi users keep their personalized sound profile activated after setup, a clear indication of enduring value.

The results are not only measurable, but deeply human. As one user expressed:

"Brought tears to my eyes.. I was born with hearing loss. After using the apps hearing test to customize the sound.. For the first time in my life I could enjoy music.... It's literally one of the most amazing things that has ever happened to me in my life.”

What “hearing intelligence” means in practice

We call it "intelligent" because it's rooted in science, powered by data, and built for seamless integration with our SDK.

Based on more than a decade of academic research, Mimi’s technology focuses on digitalizing the human hearing system - transforming hearing science into scalable, real-world applications which can run on any consumer electronics device.  For our partners, this means access to a suite of technologies that go beyond just sound personalization.

Our technology uses real-world listening data and scientifically validated hearing tests to adapt audio in a way that matches each person’s unique hearing ability. Our AI-based audio processing intelligently enhances speech in real-time conversations, and we can also make dialogue easier to understand for streamed media. We also offer integrated hearing assessments that allow users to test and understand their hearing abilities from the comfort of their own home. Our hearing testing technology, which is compliant to ANSI/CTA-2118 standard and powers the Johns Hopkins Hearing Number app, is trusted by the audiologist community and has become a valuable tool for hearing screening. It has also been validated by numerous external studies and research papers.

This level of adaptability opens new possibilities for our partners to build more personalized, health-aware, and user-centric products that stand out in the market.

Leading the next era of audio

What I hope people understand about Mimi now is that we’re not only building tools for people with hearing loss. Audio consumption has been growing exponentially. It has been reported that Americans spend almost 20% of their day listening to audio, and more personal audio devices are being sold every year. These devices should help everyone to get the best personal listening experience, independent of their hearing ability, the device being used, the environment they listen in, and what content they are consuming. Therefore, we are reimagining sound for everyone.

Hearing is deeply personal, and constantly changing. Our mission is to ensure that audio experiences evolve along with it, creating sound that is intelligent, inclusive, and truly personal.

That’s the future of sound we’re building at Mimi, together with our partners.
