The Mimi Story
In December 2012, Mimi Co-Founder, Nick Clarke, launched the open source BioAid App as a public engagement exercise based on research work in the UK. Meanwhile, at the same time, Mimi Co-Founder Philipp Skribanowitz was working as a Venture Partner at Atlantic labs and looking into business opportunities in the audiological sector.
After Nick’s app started to gain media attention in early 2013, Philipp reached out to Nick and Pascal Werner, and the trio began collaborating together in September 2013. This is when they started working on Project Earworm… a precursor to Mimi…
In January 2014, Mimi was officially born. The Mimi Hearing Test App was launched in May 2014 and the team took part in TechCrunch’s Disrupt NY Startup Battlefield to present the idea of revolutionizing the audiological funnel, and talk about their plan to use smartphones to help people with hearing loss.
In 2015, Mimi made a technological advancement and discovered a unique flavor of biologically inspired sound processing that enhanced the audio for streamed content. This inspired the launch of the Mimi Music App (app no longer available in the app store).
In 2017, Mimi announced their first partnership with beyerdynamic, and in the last 5 years have continued to found more partnerships with industry-leading companies in the headphone, television, streaming and smartphone industries
In 2022 Mimi Sound Personalization can be found in over 1 million devices. More than 2 million hearing tests have been taken in more than 150 countries, and Mimi’s mobile Hearing Test is #1 globally.
