General Hearing Health Questions
I’m concerned about my hearing. Should I visit the audiologist?
If you have any concerns about your hearing, please follow up with a hearing healthcare professional. Mimi does not supersede or replace a decisive diagnosis by a physician, does not allow direct diagnosis and is not intended to be used for monitoring, treatment or alleviation of any disease or disability.
At what level can noise start to damage your hearing?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), noise above 70 dB over a prolonged period may start to damage your hearing. Loud noise above 120 dB, as well as exposure to moderately loud noise for a long time, can cause immediate harm to your ears.
How can I prevent hearing damage and protect my ears?
Find out more about your hearing (to help you to protect it) by testing with a Mimi-enabled headphone and turning on Sound Personalization.
Stand away from loud, direct noise (e.g. DJ booth, speakers).
Take breaks from noisy environments.
Use hearing protection / ear plugs.
Be aware of long term and high-level exposure at entertainment venues.
Why is hearing health important?
Hearing plays a critical role in how you connect with the world. Good hearing supports clear communication, mental sharpness, and social engagement. Ignoring hearing issues can lead to isolation, fatigue, and even cognitive decline over time.
Can younger people experience hearing loss too?
Yes. While hearing loss is more common with age, it’s increasingly affecting younger people due to noise exposure from loud music, earbuds, or workplace environments. Early awareness is key to protecting long-term hearing health.
