Accessibility Statement
- Hearing Test App (iOS)

Mimi Hearing Technologies GmbH (hereinafter “Mimi”) endeavors to make the Mimi Hearing Test App accessible in accordance with the national and European legislation of the German Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (“BFSG”) and the European Accessibility Act. This accessibility statement applies to The "Mimi Hearing Test" App.
‍
This declaration was created on 01.06.2025 and last reviewed and updated on 11.06.2025
The method used to prepare the declaration was a self-test.
‍

At Mimi, we believe that hearing health should be accessible to everyone. The Mimi Hearing Test App is designed with inclusivity in mind, ensuring that users of all abilities can benefit from accurate and user-friendly hearing assessments. We are committed to removing barriers and continuously improving the app to support a wide range of accessibility needs. We strive to ensure that our app is accessible to all users, regardless of their abilities or disabilities, by following the regulations of the German Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG), which implements the European Accessibility Act (EAA), and we follow best practices based on the The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) Level AA. These guidelines define how to make digital content more accessible and are built around four core principles: content should be perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.

Current Status of Accessibility‍

The Mimi Hearing Test App is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. This means that while many accessibility features have been implemented, some aspects of the app do not yet fully meet the requirements. We are actively working to improve accessibility and to ensure greater conformance over time.

Supported Accessibility Features

  • Small screen size: Providing a reasonable default size for content and touch controls to minimize the need to zoom in and out for users with low vision. Adapting the length of link text to the viewport width. Positioning form fields below, rather than beside, their labels (in portrait layout).
  • Contrast: Contrast of at least 4.5:1 (or 3:1 for large-scale text)
  • Placing buttons where they are easy to access: Mobile sites and applications should position interactive elements where they can be easily reached when the device is held in different positions.‍
  • Consistent Layout: Components that are repeated across multiple pages should be presented in a consistent layout.‍
  • Positioning important page elements before the page scroll: The small screen size on many mobile devices limits the amount of content that can be displayed without scrolling. Positioning important page information so it is visible without requiring scrolling can assist users with low vision and users with cognitive impairments.‍
  • Grouping operable elements that perform the same action: When multiple elements perform the same action or go to the same destination (e.g. link icon with link text), these should be contained within the same actionable element.‍
  • Provide clear indication that elements are actionable: Elements that trigger changes should be sufficiently distinct to be clearly distinguishable from non-actionable elements (content, status information, etc).‍
  • Provide instructions for custom touchscreen and device manipulation gestures: Instructions (e.g overlays, tooltips, tutorials, etc.) should be provided to explain what gestures can be used to control a given interface and whether there are alternatives.‍
  • Set the virtual keyboard to the type of data entry required (This is partially supported).

Hearing-Specific Considerations

  • Tone Clarity and Consistency: Test tones designed for accurate auditory detection.
  • Quiet Environment Guidance: Visual and textual prompts to ensure test validity.
  • Accessibility for Users with Moderate - Severe Hearing Loss: Even if the test tone cannot be heard at certain frequencies, the test can still proceed to completion. In-app guidance for test adjustments and support.

Usability Enhancements

  • Intuitive Navigation: Simple layout with large tappable areas. Sequential test flow with clear instructions.
  • Multilingual Support: Text and voice instructions available in multiple languages.
  • Alternative Feedback Options: Visual confirmations of actions and results.‍

Non-accessible Content

The Mimi Hearing Test App  is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The following elements and functions do not comply with the guidelines:

  • Resize text: Text to be resizable without assistive technology up to 200 percent.
  • Keyboard control for touchscreen devices
  • Touch target size and spacing
  • Touchscreen gestures
  • Changing screen orientation (portrait/landscape)
  • Support the characteristic properties of the platform: Voice over

Ongoing Improvements

Accessibility is a continuous effort. It is possible that some pages in the app may not have been discovered, or the appropriate technological solution has not yet been found. We will continue our efforts to improve the app’s accessibility as we are committed to having an app that is accessible.

We regularly review our app and update our processes to ensure that we maintain compliance with accessibility standards and that our digital experiences remain welcoming to all users. We also engage external experts periodically to conduct independent accessibility evaluations and provide guidance on enhancements.
